Your life matters.
Have you ever thought about what people would say about you once you have “graduated” from this life? What would you like them to say? Some people live their life by design but for most they kind of stumble through life. What if you had a chance to look at your life and create whatever you wanted? I found this exercise to be extremely empowering. It allows you to really think about what you want to create so you can live your life with purpose and by design. This was inspired by the poem “The Dash” by Linda Ellis.
WARNING! This may bring up emotions for you. This is totally normal. Emotion is what moves us into action. Allow this emotion to move you into your success. The only person stopping you from what you want in life is you. You have the power to do anything you put your mind to. I believe in each of you.
When you “graduate” from this place and everyone has gathered to share their memories, thoughts and appreciation for your life. How do you want them to remember you? What do you want to leave as a legacy? What did you contribute to this world in your lifetime.
Write it as if you could wave a magic wand and everything you ever wanted would happen and then some. Write your perfect life in the Eulogy.
- Read “The Dash” poem before starting this exercise.
- Sit in a quiet place and close your eyes. Imagine that your life has turned out exactly the way you wanted to from this place forward. Imagine that all your dreams and your passions have been fulfilled. What has happened in your life? Visualize this and stay in this place. Notice what you see and how you feel. Most importantly, notice how you feel. Put your hand over your heart as you feel this.
- Open your eyes, write down what you saw and what you felt in great detail.
- Write down a list of what you accomplished when everything in your life turned out.
- Answer these questions – based on your life turning out exactly the way you designed and that your dreams and passions have been fulfilled: (BE VERY SPECIFIC)
- Who did you help? How did you help them.
- What kind of person are you?
- What did you do for the world? Your community? Your family?
- What positive change resulted because of what you created?
- What did you create in your life?
- What did you accomplish?
- What put smiles on faces as a result of who you are and what you did?
- If the paper could do one article on you – what would the article be about?
- Describe your family, your friends, your business.
- Now, write 2 or 3 paragraphs about your life as if the person who loves you the most in this world wrote it. They are honored to share about you and your life with others.
- Write your eulogy in your own handwriting. Read it several times. Make any necessary adjustments.
- If you feel comfortable, create a blog post and share your eulogy with the world. Mine is below. Please feel free to comment and share the link to your eulogy.
