Social Networking Tips: Position yourself as an expert

April 11th, 2012 by Sabrina Gibson

Are you an expert or a Product Pusher?   So many professionals get online and feel this need to make money selling their products and services.  The idea is that if you aren’t generating sales, then you are wasting time in Social Networks.  This is a complete LIE.  The reality of sales is this….I would not go to a stranger’s house, barge into their house, sit at their kitchen table and proceed to share great opportunities with them or how great my products and services are.   This would create a lot of upset people and might even get me a restraining order. It would not build a warm and fuzzy feeling with them.

So why is this behavior accepted online?  It is not.  What would you say is the first step to making a sale?  Building TRUST. Ding. Ding. Ding…..good answer.

How do you build trust online?

1.  GIVE, GIVE, GIVE, GIVE……did I mention Give?  You give tips, advice, resources, articles, and answers to questions about your area of expertise.

2.  You look for opportunities to help others get what they want.  Zig Zigler said, “If you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want.”

3.  Connect people together….make nice introductions in hopes these people can refer business to each other, do business together or become friends.  With practice you will become an amazing connector who helps a ton of people get a ton of referrals.

4.  Acknowledge people that have helped you.

Here is your mission for the week….

1.  Look for things that you can give to others.  Blog posts you wrote, webinars you are hosting, websites that make your life easy….etc.  Share things online with others.

2.  Ask your online friends and connections what and who they would like to be connected to….then listen…..and if you can…..connect them to people and things that they need.

3.  Take the top 10 people you love and adore…think about what they do and then connect them with others that might be able to send them some business.  Don’t worry if it is right or not….you will get better as you practice.

4.  Make a list of 20 people who have made a difference in your life and publicly acknowledge them online….get them a recommendation on Linkedin, Write a great thing on their facebook wall, send them an email with a testimonial they can use, constantly make it known how amazing this person is to you….in a public place.

5.  Rinse and repeat every week…..and watch how many referrals start coming your way.

Social Networking Tips: 7 Free Tools to measure influence on Twitter about you or your brand

April 8th, 2012 by Sabrina Gibson

Social Networking Tips: One key element to any effort you put into Social Media and Social Networking is to track and measure your results.  7 Free Social Networkigng Tips and Tools to measure influence on Twitter about you or your brand

The volume of followers on Twitter is an interesting figure, but not decisive: what matters is the relevance and power to influence the community . And on that measure other factors: mentions, retweets, lists, answers … In short, the ability of engagement and amplification of the message .

know and properly interpret the influence on Twitter is essential in the social media strategy of a brand or company: not only itself but also the competition. To calculate there are seven free tools, although the algorithm used differs in each case.

1. Klout  Since its inception in 2008, Klout has analyzed the profile of about 85 million users and 3,500 companies use it, as they say in their blog Klout assigned a score between 1 and 100 and indicate on which issues is influential on how many people you influence, whether immediate or network connections followers (true reach), how much influence (amplification) and the impact of the network (network .)

  • Strengths. Klout assigned a category based on the influence : celebrity, leader, socializing, networker, specialist, activist … In addition, and xtrae the main profiles on those influences, which makes the segmentation and action planning with relevant public . The key metrics are displayed in a monthly trend graph, and also calculates the retweets and mentions of the last 90 days. It also offers companies the opportunity to reward the community members most prominent and influentialPerks , ie products or exclusive experiences, including the ability to test a new model of Audi for a weekend, or go to a premiere of Disney. It also allows integration of other social networks , not just Twitter, and compare the Klout own with other profiles
  • Weaknesses. In fact, very few. Perhaps the fact that the evolution graphs do not reflect what the score moves upward or downward , so that the end result can be random sometimes.

2. Peer Index . Launched in 2009, gives an overall score from 1 to 100 and a rating as authority, audience and activity . It also indicates the most important and most common source of references.

  • Strengths. PeerIndex calculates the “footprint” of the brand , that is, which has resonance in eight reference topics, and compare it with that of another company. In addition, offers brands Perks develop a program and identify important influencers very selective in their community.
  • Weaknesses. Perks program requires request, which a priori is not possible to identify which sections are most relevant to the brand. The metrics yields are also limited and do not include graphic evolution.

3. Retweet Rank . Created in 2008, used to calculate the impact of tweets and retweets. assigns a numerical scale of influence on Twitter absolute and a percentage that indicates the relative position with other Twitter users. The ranking is updated every two hours.Simultaneously, it extracts the most recent retweets.

  • Strengths. The free version is shown in how many lists including Twitter profile analyzed , a figure that with the new Twitter is no longer public. With the payment option offered comprehensive data of retweets, most influential retuiteadores identification, analysis of top tweets, retuiteadas words, what is the best time to tweet and evolution, among other metrics.
  • Weaknesses. The data available for free are very limited. In addition, the score does not take into account variables such as indications or responses. no absolute numerical scale indicates the reference.

4. Twitalyzer . This tool assigns a percentage and an index, and compares it with Klout and PeerIndex simultaneously . It also analyzes the demographic profile of the network, shows who has spoken recently and identifies the most common topics and hashtags employees.

  • Strengths. Besides offering comparison with other tools,Twitalyzer includes an extensive set of very detailed metrics: impact, engagement, influence, generosity (percentage of updates in which retweet to another user), speed (refresh rate), lists , ratio of retweets, potential and actual scope, authority … also identifies which are most relevant influencers that contribute to the amplification of the messages, and allows you to find relevant profiles in a given subject.
  • Weaknesses. In fact, almost none. payment option gives access to a host of additional metrics and graphs of daily activity trends, detailed analysis of the community, clicks on links, trends, etc..

5. Twitter Grader . HubSpot tool that assigns a ranking relative to an absolute number, identify supporters, followed, released and tweets on Twitter starting date and a graph of changes in the number of followers.

  • Strengths. Unlike Retweet Rank, Twitter Grader is the number based on the ranking is calculated. In addition, the fan chart of evolution can be compared to the competition.
  • Weaknesses. It is too simple a tool in both analyzing metrics to calculate the ranking, as to the information it offers.

6. Tweet Level . Edelman tool that assigns a score of influence, popularity, engagement and reliability, from 1 to 100 . Includes tag cloud of key themes to reference and retweets latest similar profiles.

  • Strengths. The analysis includes recommendations to increase your popularity, influence, engagament and reliability.
  • Weaknesses . Although specifies in detail how algorithm calculates the influence, the result is quite “willing” is by far the highest rate tool of influence attributed to any user or brand.

7. Kred Give a catchment scale of 1 to 1000 and one activity of 1 to 10. Displays the latest entries and retweets, and assigns a score that moves the brand Kred: retweets and mentions of a Users with less than 10,000 fans are worth 10 points, more than 10,000 followers contributing 25 points, from 10,000 to 100,000 followers added 50 points. Each brand new follower provides, in turn, a point.

  • Strengths. shows the activity of the followers in real time.
  • Weaknesses. It is a tool still in beta with a still relatively credibility and reliability.

And you, what tool you find most useful and reliable for measuring influence on Twitter?

Social Networking Tips: 7 basic tips to protect your Social Networks

7 Basic Social Networking Tips to protect your accounts and profiles on social networks
Each week, it seems I get another email from someone who has had an attack on their Social Networks.  You have seen it as random pictures of exotic shoes or a tremendous amount of information being posted on your page from a friend.  An example: the Koobface worm that targets users of social networks like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and hi5, has infected more than 800,000 computers.

The objective is usually generally take control of the affected computer, steal personal data and impersonating generate spam. In addition, the proliferation of mobile devices as a tool for access to social media opens up new avenues of attack.

How to detect and avoid these potential intrusions and protect the social networking profiles, especially in the case of community managers who manage multiple accounts simultaneously? During the day raised 7 basic tips:

1. Always close working sessions: close the browser simply is not enough.

2. Beware of the login page or log-in whose URL does not begin with “https” or domains containing “suspicious” are usually false and serve as a gateway to downloading Trojans. Especially important is wary of those that contain typographical errors or spelling and unusual colors or logos.

3. Use a good password: say the statistics, for example, that the password 123456 is at least about 290,000 users. Use a “strong” password lock exercised against malicious attack first: should be long, meaningless, with uppercase, lowercase, numbers, special characters … It’s the best way to avoid a dictionary attack, the method of cracking which is to try ascertain a password by trying every word in the dictionary. It should also modify every three months, and never set it for multiple accounts.

4. Do not install applications that are not trusted.

5. Avoid working with teams from other people and if they do, then always clean history.

6. Discard obsolete browsers: you must update your browser and antivirus, and turn on the firewall.  I highly recommend AVG Pro version.  This has helped me many times.

7. Do not click on links if we are not sure of their origin, although sharing a friend.

And you, what other precautions you recommend?

Social Networking Tips: Video Marketing

April 4th, 2012 by Sabrina Gibson

Social Networking Tip:

Instead of answering questions on the phone or in email – turn on your digital camera and create a video where you answer that question. It doesn’t have to be professional.

With videos….it is about content.   Then you can:

  • Post that video to YouTube
  • Email a link to the person who asked the question.
  • If you have a blog, embed the video into a blog post.
  • Then send the blog post out to all your Social Networks (I like Ping.fm).
  • Transcribe the video and create additional blog posts (remember Search Engines can only see text not the video – this means the text version will help with your Search Engine Rankings)
  • You can easily create a video library with all the questions you answer.

With each video be sure to create a specific call to action at the end. (Call me at _______, visit this website for more information, connect with me online, etc)
