Social Networking Article: 9 Tips to Writing a Powerful eBook

Show your expertise with an eBook

An eBook is simply an online book that allows you to shine as an expert.  An eBook would address a specific topic for a specific target audience.  You would market the eBook and then people who are interested would be able to go to a webpage and download the eBook instantly.  I started with an eBook and later expanded it and turned it into a full book.  My eBook was a valuable tool in helping me generate leads and build a list.  Here are 9 tips so you can offer a tremendous value, build a huge fan club and create an outcome you desire.

1.      Ask your audience what they would like to learn before you write the eBook – ask them “What would be 3 key things you would like to know about ______” Let them know you are writing an eBook and ask them what they would like to see….this will position you to be able to market to them later and give you valuable insight as to what to include.

2.      Determine if you are going to sell your eBook or use it to build a list.

3.      Regardless of the answer in #2 – you will want to have a landing page for your eBook. This would be a way for you to automatically deliver the eBook. I would consider doing “how to effectively implement the eBook” with mini training in the form of auto responders. These can be straight text and/or videos. I would opt for videos. The more someone hears and sees you the more credibility and trust you will gain. You can leverage these emails by gently offering an “up sell”. I would do this every 4th email.  The idea is to offer value, value, value, value + an up sell.

4.      Don’t offer FLUFF – give real information that can be applied right now. An eBook is a taste of what you can do for them. I have landed numerous speaking engagements and clients as a result of the information I delivered in my eBook.

5.      Get someone to edit and format it for you so it looks AMAZING. Pictures are really wonderful. The more professional and well put together you make it – the more value it will have.  If you are not an accomplished writer – get your thoughts together as much as possible and then have a great writer put the polishing touches on it.  They can keep your voice, style and personality in it.

6.      Allow your personality to shine in the eBook. If you are funny….then use your sense of humor. If you are straight forward…then be straightforward.

7.      Write your eBook as if you were writing it for a brand new prospect – meaning…write towards one person….write in simple language….don’t use jargon….make it so easy for someone who knows nothing about what you do to follow and implement.

8.      Use specific examples = tell a specific story about the challenges, solutions and outcomes of the example. If you can, get a testimonial from the person you worked with and person to share them in the eBook. Real people like real examples – it will also show you have a proven system.

9.      Have fun….an eBook doesn’t have to be a novel. In fact short and concise works! Remember you can always go deepen with additional eBooks. Again, when you understand the purpose of what you want to gain from doing this eBook, then you will be able to put together a powerful strategy.

Once you have your eBook up and complete, you can share the link to download it with your Social Networks.  What questions do you have about writing or marketing an eBook? What advice can you share that has worked for you?
